Caesars Indiana is truly a return to a more decadent age of southern opulence. It is a riverboat casino, and instantly brings people to mind of an age of class and savagery; think the movie “Maverick” all unfolding right before your eyes. This makes the riverboat casino that is owned and operated by casino giant Harrah’s Entertainment a very powerful draw to tourists and locals alike. Caesars Indiana is housed on the Glory of Rome, which is a massive four deck riverboat, in fact, the largest riverboat in the entire country.
The casino is relatively new, having been around for less than twenty years, and was only built after legislation was passed changing the law to allow gambling in the surrounding counties. The boat and casino have both changed hands several times, with two other companies having owned the properties before it came to be owned by the current owners, Harrah’s. The boat no longer sails the river, as legislation that was passed a few years ago permits it to dock permanently. This lessens the chance of accidents and makes it more accessible to tourists coming to try their hand at some riverboat gambling. In fact, the boat had a few accidents before it was allowed to stay docked, which probably accounts for why it stays now.
Riverboat gambling was illegal for a very long time, and once the law was changed to allow a facility like Caesars Indiana to exist, it immediately became very popular. Similar backlashes have come from most areas where gambling has been illegal for long periods of time and then suddenly legalized. There is clearly a strong demand from the people to have casinos legal in their areas, because whenever a new one opens it has a strong likelihood of doing very, very well, very quickly.
